FAQs

  • The kitchen table is a symbol of community and connection for me—homey and nourishing. That’s the vibe I want therapy to have: a place to feel at peace, emotionally and physically. Plus, KTP makes a nice acronym.

  • I’m based in Massachusetts and offer therapy online to anyone physically located in the state during our sessions. This includes residents as well as students, travelers, and others temporarily in MA. All initial sessions are held virtually via telehealth. In-person/walk and talk sessions available by request only.

If you are located elsewhere but still want to work with me, please visit my coaching website: https://www.nikkili.com/coaching to learn if somatic or executive functioning coaching could be a good fit for you. (Coaching is not therapy, and it is not a replacement for therapeutic treatment or mental health services.)

  • All sessions are held online via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You just need a private space and a stable internet connection. Many clients appreciate the flexibility, accessibility, and comfort of meeting from their own environment.

  • I typically work with clients on either a weekly or bi-weekly basis. I work with clients for anywhere between 3 months to a few years, depending on your needs.

  • Thank you for your interest in working with me! Due to availability and bandwidth, I stopped offering free consultation calls in 2023 to focus on providing the best care for the people I am already working with.

What I’ve done instead is tried my best to include everything you need to know about working with me on my website for you to read without having to wait to schedule a call. There is also a short video here if you want to know what I sound like. If you have additional questions, we can address them face-to-face in the initial intake session. You can schedule it here.

Of course, there will always be unique circumstances. If you don’t know which service best fits your situation, or you have a question that isn’t answered on the website, please feel free to reach out via the Contact Form or email me.

  • While we wish insurance can make therapy more accessible, I’ve found that it often undervalue mental health care, creates more barrier and stress for clients, and pushes providers to burnout.

Many of my clients have had negative experiences with insurance companies, such as limited session coverage, restrictions on treatment approaches, denied claims, and surprise bills. All of this ultimately interfered with their healing process. You can read more about it in this article.

At KTP, I choose not to work directly with insurance companies. As a licensed therapist, I have an ethical obligation to prioritize my clients’ well-being, and I’ve found that the self-care model allows me to provide high-quality therapy services without insurance compromising your care.

So what are you paying for when you invest in therapy with me?

    • A therapist who is deeply trained and actively doing the work to improve quality of care

    • Working together without external restrictions on length or type of treatment

    • Protection for your privacy and confidentiality from health insurance algorithm and healthcare data mining

    • Focus on what’s most effective for you, not what an insurance policy dictates

    • A genuine, collaborative therapeutic relationship

I know therapy is a significant investment. If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide a superbill for potential reimbursement. (See next question.) And if I’m not the right fit financially, I’m happy to refer you to lower-fee or insurance-based providers who may better match your needs.

At the end of the day, you deserve care that honors your full humanity. I’m committed to offering that — even if it means working outside of a system that often asks us to do more with less.

  • You may be able to submit superbills/invoices for out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your insurance plan. I can provide a superbill at your request. Clients are responsible for contacting their insurance company for reimbursement policy and procedure.

There is a service called Thrizer that handles the out-of-network process for clients. You can use them to verify out-of-network benefits and submit superbills. They will handle the submission and communicate with insurance company for you. Once you meet your deductible, you receive reimbursements in a few weeks via direct deposit. You can create an account and get started here.

Please note that I am only able to provide a mental health diagnosis for clients in individual therapy. A mental health diagnosis (f code) is NOT typically given for clients in couples therapy, only z code (relationship issues). Confirm with your insurer on whether they reimburse z code.

  • Individual Therapy: $225

    Couples / Relationship / Family Therapy: $250

Weekend sessions are available by request and are subject to an additional $50 flat fee.

  • We have a limited number of reduced-fee spots based on financial need. Just ask — we’ll let you know what’s available.

  • Once you request a session either through online scheduling on the Client Portal or via the Contact Form, You will receive a welcome email outlining the exact next steps.

You will also receive an invitation to create your secure client portal account, where you can complete required forms, send secure messages, and manage appointments.

If you don’t receive these emails, please reach out to me at hello@kitchentablepsychotherapy.com.

  • As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Dance/Movement Therapist, I am trained to help individuals, couples, and families overcome a wide range of emotional, mental, physical, relational challenges. Over the years I have developed areas of expertise so I can provide the best care for my clients. To learn more about my specialties visit the Services page and About page.

Additionally, here is a list of issues that I no longer focus on. If this is the MAIN reason you are seeking therapy, I believe there is a provider out there who would be a better fit for you.

    • Addiction, Substance Abuse, Personality Disorders (Antisocial, Borderline, Schizophrenia), Psychosis, Bipolar, and Active Suicide Ideation or Self-Harm

For couples therapy, I only work with partnerships where everyone is committed to improving the relationship and there is a basic level of safety and trust.

    • If you or your partner is actively considering breakup or divorce, I can only support one of you in individual therapy. I recommend finding a Discernment Counseling Practitioner as general couples therapy is not effective nor appropriate in this situation.

    • If safety and trust is broken (abuse, infidelity, etc.), I recommend all partners seek individual therapy and find a therapist who specializes in the situation you are experiencing.

I do not work with minors at this time.

  • Book your first session or contact me.

I look forward to meeting with you!
